As a professor, researcher and speaker, Dr. Donna J. Nelson has mentored numerous women and minority students and taught many of our state physicians, dentists, pharmacists and veterinarians.

Nelson considers her most significant personal achievement to be completing and disseminating national surveys showing the under- representation of women and minorities among science and engineering faculty at research universities. The surveys conducted by Nelson and her students at the University of Oklahoma have been used by the U.S. Congress, National Women's Law Center, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and many societies, universities and companies, which are working to stop the decline in U.S. citizens entering and persisting in science. These surveys have led to her invitation to perform briefings in Washington, D.C.
