Summary


Markets fell last week after Wall Street edged its way into the earnings season. As our session ended April 11, Alcoa reported a 54- percent decline in first-quarter earnings, and Advanced Micro Devices announced a 15-percent drop in sales for the quarter. GE was the big kicker, though: the market bellwether that reported a 6- percent decline in earnings on the day our trading session ended.

GE's numbers started a sell-off that ended with the Dow industrials off over 250 points for the day, and investors worried about earnings reports to come. A consumer confidence reading released on the same day showed results at a 26-year low.
