Oklahoma Treasurer's Race Includes Two Well-Acquainted Republicans

Summary


The race for treasurer has pitted two candidates against each other in the Republican primary who know each other quite well: former Gov. Frank Keating's Secretary of Commerce Howard Barnett and Keating's twin brother, Daniel Keating. But despite the candidates' close ties - or perhaps due to the difficulty the candidates have had distinguishing themselves from the other - the race has taken a turn toward the negative.

The winner of the July 25 primary will face the current treasurer, Scott Meacham, in the general election in November. This is the first campaign for an elected office for all of the candidates running for treasurer this year.
