Oklahoma Lawmakers Weigh Debate Over Uniform Trust Code Changes

Summary


A proposed mingling of the Uniform Trust Code with current Oklahoma trust law had attorneys arguing both sides of the issue Tuesday during a hearing held by the state House Judiciary Committee.

Michele Nelson, co-chairwoman for the legislative committee for the estate planning, probate and trust section for the Oklahoma Bar Association, said there were 15 states that had adopted the Uniform Trust Code with numerous others considering going that direction. She said many neighboring states such as Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas were among those that had amended their own trust statutes to mirror the federal law.
