The state of Oklahoma has to pay itself taxes for coverage under surplus lines of insurance, according to an attorney general's opinion requested by Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland.
The only entities in Oklahoma exempted from paying the surplus lines insurance tax are Indian tribes, state Attorney General Drew Edmondson said in the opinion. The state is exempted from paying taxes to itself on certain items, including vehicle excise tax on state-owned vehicles and cigarettes sold to veterans' hospitals.See the full content of this document
