Summary
Tango dancers, a Latin Romeo with a guitar, a small band of marching (dancing) soldiers, a narrator in fatigues, a chorus girl turned politico, her husband who's running a South American country and a huge cast of singers and dancers and actors fill the stage for Lyric Theatre's production of Evita at Civic Center Music Hall. The musical, based on the life of Eva Peron, whose husband, Juan Peron, is president of Argentina, will play through Saturday night, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available.
Dan Cooney, as Che, steals the show. He sings; he dances; he acts, and he serves as narrator for this rock opera about Eva Duarte who began her career as "Miss Round Heels" and ended it as the leader - with her husband - of her native Argentina. Cooney, dressed in military fatigues, is on stage for most of the musical as he sings about the happenings in Eva's life. He is clever and demanding, yet sympathetic, in his role, as he traces the lives of the Perons. Cooney, a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, also played Che in the National Tour, among his many theatrical credits. He has an excellent voice.See the full content of this document
