Former Energy Official Says R&D Budget Needs to Be Increased

There's no magic wand that will make all energy problems go away, but a good start in helping the country become more energy- independent would be to increase the U.S. Department of Energy's research and development budget, said a former official of the department.

Melanie Kenderdine, now associate director for the MIT Energy Initiative, had key positions in the Department of Energy from 1993 to 2001, including senior advisor to the energy secretary and director of the Office of Policy.
