That's exactly what happened when Lisa Putt became director of marketing with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Oklahoma. Yet it was a bit different than the marketing career she had originally envisioned.

"After the breakup of the telecommunications industry in the early 1980s, I was looking for an area that I could combine my marketing and interest in health fields," she said. "So I ended up taking a sales/marketing job for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I had so many wonderful opportunities I just kept staying for 22 years in the field of employee benefits."
