Devon Energy Chairman, Ceo Takes Place in Oil and Gas Hall of Fame

The Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Hall of Fame has enshrined J. Larry Nichols in its inaugural class. The chairman and chief executive of Devon Energy joined 53 other hall of fame members chosen by a committee of 25 executives active in the industry for the past 30 years.

Nichols, 62, is a co-founder of Devon. A director since 1971, he was named chief executive officer in 1980 and chairman of the board of directors in 2000. The graduate of Princeton and the University of Michigan served as president until 2003. Under his direction, Devon has become the largest U.S.-based independent oil and gas producer and one of the largest independent processors of natural gas and natural gas liquids in North America. The Fortune 500 company employs about 4,000 worldwide.
