Summary
When it comes to Oklahoma City's retail market, one of the biggest trends emerging is the growth in retailers that sell products designed for a healthy lifestyle. Not surprisingly, these retailers have largely stayed away from Oklahoma City in years past, considering that healthy living has not typically been a core value of many local residents. Just take a look at the state's obesity ranking for proof. The good news is that strong attempts are being made to reverse this trend. Awareness programs like Mayor Mick Cornett's "This City is Going on a Diet" campaign are working and it seems that more residents are looking for ways to improve their health through exercise and better dieting. As a result, national retailers are taking notice and are attempting to meet the growing needs of a city embracing healthier living.
One example can be seen in grocery stores. In just the past few months, the city has seen two large healthy grocery stores open in the form of Whole Foods and Sunflower Farmers Market, with Sunshine already looking at a second location in Edmond. Both of these stores have been very well-received with Whole Foods' opening being in the top 10 openings of all time for the chain. Moreover, existing grocery stores like Buy For Less are also planning to open more healthy versions of their stores in the coming months to capitalize on this trend.See the full content of this document
