Politics strode boldly into the developing battle over State Question 723 last week when the Republican State Committee announced the GOP's opposition to raising motor fuel taxes.

More than 100 of the 300 members of the state committee present to discuss the issue voted unanimously to oppose the measure, which constitutionally imposes a motor fuel tax increase estimated to cost motorists $150 million annually when fully implemented in three years.
