Clause in New Federal Law Could Create Jobs in Central Okc

Summary


A clause in recent federal legislation for troop funding and hurricane recovery aid could help create thousands of jobs and save employers millions of dollars in central Oklahoma City, officials said.

The law that President Bush signed at the end of May - the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act of 2007 - also expanded the Work Opportunity Tax Credit for employers who hire people from select groups. Oklahoma City Federal Program Manager Paul Newmark said that includes the city's empowerment zone and its 11,700 businesses, as well as any business that hires from that area.
