Chesapeake to Pay $181m to Dfw for Drilling Leases

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is part of the popular and productive Barnett Shale territory, and on Thursday, Chesapeake Energy received approval to become the first company to drill for natural gas on DFW land.

The airport's board of directors approved a deal for Chesapeake to pay the airport $181 million to drill on 18,000 acres. Chesapeake also will give the airport a royalty of 25 percent on gas production, pending city council approval from Dallas and Fort Worth.
