Illegal immigrants are working in the Oklahoma City area, said David Castillo, chairman of the Greater Oklahoma City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Like many other U.S. cities with a burgeoning Hispanic population, Oklahoma City's economy would be greatly affected by President George Bush's plan for immigration reform.
The proposed temporary worker program is of particular interest to business owners in Oklahoma, said Castillo. Many immigrant workers fill labor-intensive, low-paying positions - as agricultural laborers, for instance. Though most Americans don't want these kinds of jobs, they nonetheless play a vital role in the economies of the state and the nation.See the full content of this document
