State Abortion Measure Passes Okla. Senate 34-14

Summary


Despite concerns from the Oklahoma medical community, a new version of an old bill regulating access to abortion was passed in the state Senate 34-14 on Wednesday.

Senate Bill 139, which is very similar to Senate Bill 714 proposed by state Sen. James Williamson, R-Tulsa, makes exceptions for cases of rape and incest but does not address exemptions for fatal abnormalities of the fetus and still prohibits doctors at state-funded hospitals from encouraging a woman to have an abortion.
