Okc Makes Good Deal with $18m Incentive Package for Dell Computers

A deal to get Dell Computer to Oklahoma City could cost taxpayers an estimated $18 million, but even economic experts say that's a bargain. According to an agreement with the world's largest computer maker approved Tuesday by the City Council, the incentive package that persuaded Dell to build a 120,000-square-foot call center here included 62 acres of land, up to $11.25 million in improvements and as much as $5.5 million in job-creation grants.

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center researchers will receive between $10 million and $12 million to study the West Nile virus, influenza and other viruses such as the Q fever bacterium. The award is part of a $73 million federal viral vaccine research program from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health.

Houston-Based Parker Drilling Suffers $22.1 Million Net Loss

Parker Drilling Co. on Tuesday reported a net loss of $22.1 million, or 23 cents per share, for the third quarter. Parker had a net loss of $6.7 million, or 7 cents per share, for the third quarter of 2003.

Kansas-Based Qc Holdings Completes Purchase of 20 Ok Payday Loan Stores

QC Holdings Inc. on Tuesday announced that it has completed the purchase of 20 payday loan stores in Oklahoma. The stores, which have been open for less than one year, currently operate under the trade name Check First. They are located throughout the state, including four in Oklahoma City and four in Tulsa.
